In materials science and condensed matter physics, we can use the Schrodinger equation to (theoretically) perfectly model any solid we want, as it is mathematically complete and we posses the algorithms to solve it to arbitrary accuracy. However, the computational/time cost associated with this process scales very fast with system complexity, and we simply do not have the time or power to model everything to some supremely accurate level.
