Material calculations use the Schrodinger equations to calculate the properties of materials. To do this, the scientist starts from the found theoretical model. They do not search for this theoretical model.
Doing the computation does not requier experiment. Because of this, it can be thought that the properties of materials are given by discovering an accurate theoretical model.
