In the solar system, each planet is mainly attracted by the sun, but the planets also interact with each other. In a Kohn-Sham like approach, the real interacting planets would be replaced by non-interacting planets. However, their effect would have to be included through an effective gravitational potential, so that the fictitious system reproduces the same mass distribution as the real system.
