    The first task was a physical one, done in a real world.
    the 2nd one is a simulation done in a computer.

    I misunderstood the question.
    The answer would be construction mechanics is a Newtonian problem which has standard known procedure to solve the problem.
    On the other hand material engineering is a quantum mechanical problem which requires to solve a set of Schrödinger equations which takes lot of computational resources, moreover without a suitable algorithm the underlying problem may not be solved at all.
