In a material physics course I took last year, we discussed how 1 imperfection or defect per cubic micrometer can drastically change the material properties. In order to simulate such a phenomenon you would have to simulate a macroscopic number of atoms, which is still far out of reach with current computing power. This is why I think a full Material Genome is still a long while away, there a re just too many variables to simulate “everything”.
