The Jacobs ladder is a sort of structerised way of reaching the exact exchange correlation functional or divine functional at the end of the ladder. Starting simple at the first step and adding things starting for the LDA aproach with every step u go on the ladder. LDA starts with local density only in the functional the next step ads the gradient for making it not local, and u keep adding things step by step while checking accuracyexperimental data (or possible to check it for small enough systems that are solvable with SE, here u can also check your evolved echange correlation funtional, without the need of experimental data) cause if u want your exhange correlation functional to be a good guesse I must certainly work with easy systems.
