    I believe that the major difference here is in our current understanding of the physics that underlies each field. Construction engineering relies on classical mechanics (statics), which, as discussed earlier, is fully solvable from its axioms. Materials development relies on quantum mechanics, which is not fully solvable yet due to the computational cost.
