We call quantum physics an ab initio model because it starts from just one equation (the Schrödinger equation) and one set of first principles and builds the entire field from there. No additional information, fringe cases, or specific rules are needed. Similarly, classical mechanics is an ab initio model because every event in the field can be described just by using Einstein’s equations. Classical electromagnetics is built on Maxwell’s equations, so I guess it can also be called an ab initio model.
