We call quantum mechanics an ab initio model because modelling physical properties using its laws will result in a recreation of the observed properties in real life, without a need for experimental data or empirical parameters. Similarly, classical mechanics can be fully modelled from Newton’s laws, making it ab-initio just as I described. Classical electromagnetism can also be considered ab-initio, as its phenomena can be modelled from first principles like Coulomb’s, Lorentz’s, and Gauss’s laws.
