Why ab initio model

Everything has to start somewhere, quantum physics starts at the Schrodinger equation, and classical at Newtons equations. To determine these starting points it must be correct, otherwise the model is wrong. Only the correct way is how things naturally work.

Electromagnetism is as ab initio model, with the first principles being Maxwell equations, describing how electric and magnetic fields naturally work.
