The base theory behind quantum mechanics is completely contained within the schrodinger equation, all problems related to quantum mechanics come down to solving this equations, which in most cases has to be done through simulations.
If a person has the opposite opinion, they are probably thinking about all the theoretical work that is still being done in quantum mechanics, but these people are mostly working on problems to understand the schrodingen erquation or for mmathematical machinery to solve it.
