I believe that the vision of creating new materials solely through thought and computation is both exciting and increasingly realistic. Modern quantum simulations, machine learning, and high-performance computing allow us to predict structures and properties prior to experiments. However, I believe that complete reliance on computation will take decades, as experimental validation is still required, and many-body interactions or defects are difficult to model perfectly. In my opinion, the dream is not science fiction, but rather a long-term goal that may be achieved within this century.
