Simulation or theoretical activity

The fundamental equations of quantum mechanics have been derived in the last century and proved by experiment many times. No experimental work is being done to refine the theory – the theoretical scientists have moved on to more complex and fundamental theories such as QFT. Simulations are now used to apply the theory be used to engineer materials. Most people have the opposite opinion since most people are not interested in quantum mechanics or materials science, and consider them fields too difficult to understand. They are not aware of progress in the field and only know about it through mainstream media.
