    For the bridge, the calculations can be made to ensure the bridge will not collapse. For the material, it is not possible to computationally find the right material, trial and error must be used. Also, bridges have been built for a long time so it is possible to learn from others mistakes and experiences. Finding a new material has no such opportunity.
