I agree with Gerbrand Ceder’s vision of designing materials purely through computation—it’s not just a dream but a direction that materials science is actively moving toward. With powerful simulation tools and AI-based prediction models, we can now screen and optimize materials before even stepping into a lab. While I don’t think experiments will become obsolete anytime soon, their role is shifting more toward validating predictions rather than guiding discovery. I believe that in the next 10-15 years, this computational-first approach will become the norm in many areas of materials research.
