A solid is a material, its constituents (atoms, molecules) are bonded in such a way that the material mantains its shape against various types of forces, this happens because the bonds arent weak like gases or liquids (in those substances the atoms go all over the place, a liquid spills easily and gases quite literaly just fly away, not maintaing a singular stable shape).
