Jacob’s ladder is an strategy to improve the search for the “divine” exchange-correlation functional. It is said to have five steps (forming a ladder) to be able to obtain this “divine” functional. The five steps are: LDA, GCAs, meta-GCAs, using exact exchange combined with compatible correlation and finally using the exact exchange with refined correlation. So according to Jacob’s ladder the divine functional should have exact exchange and correlation.
