In DFT, Jacob’s Ladder represents a discrete increase in accuracy as more details of the system are included in the exchange-correlation functional approximation. At the top of the ladder, it would be ideally the exact “divine” functional, but this is difficult to represent. At lower rungs, the computational efficiency is instead increased.
