Hello everyone, my name is Caterina.
I am Italian, but doing my Master’s in nuclear energy engineering in Stockholm, so right now I am taking this course here. Stockholm is a very calm environment and if you like nature and darkness I suggest you to come visit the city!!!
As I said, I am an engineer, I did my Bachelor’s at Politecnico di Torino and right now I am about to start my Master’s thesis at CEA. The thesis objective would be to do ab initio calculations for nuclear safety, so understanding the atomic interactions between Zr and Ni that happen during severe accident conditions, when the core of the reactor is melting, in order to predict the properties of the molten core and how it will spread. I am taking this course to have a better understanding of ab initio method,s so I will be more prepared when starting my thesis. I am passionate about nuclear power safety, so in the long term, I would like to contribute to the research that is being carried out in order to guarantee the safe operations of nuclear power plants.
