I believe quantum physics can be called an ab initio model because it takes smallest objects of the system (nuclei and electrons for example) and applies all the associated physical laws or their approximations to it. To be honest, I was unaware classical mechanics to be also called an ab initio model. I assume that is because objects in its framework can be approximated to elementary parts of the system too. Especially since at this scale quantum mechanics can be neglected. I am not certain if classical electromagnetism can be an ab initio model, as it covers both large scale and low scale systems. To be safe I would guess no, because sometimes energy quantization might be relevant but classical electromagnetism does not take it into account.
