An ab initio model is one derived from a small set of fundamental postulates, without relying on system-specific empirical fits. Quantum mechanics (Hilbert space postulates), classical mechanics (Newton’s laws or least action), and classical electromagnetism (Maxwell’s equations + Lorentz force law) are all ab initio frameworks built on such first principles.
