    The reason quantum mechanics isn’t widely applied in large-scale solid-state calculations comes down to the complexity and computational cost of solving quantum mechanical equations for materials. The fundamental principles that describe solid-state systems are well understood, directly solving these equations for large systems, like a solid with millions of atoms, is computationally prohibitive.
