    The first theorem only says that the external potential and the energy of the system can be calculated from the electron density, but this theorem says nothing about the fact that this functional minimises the energy for that given density. The second theorem is therefore also very important since it clearly states that the ground density indeed minimises the energy for that given system, so it does not only make the theory theoretically sound but it also gives us a clear practical procedure for finding this density.
