Hello from Ghana

my name or username: Prince

the city and country from where I take this course: Kumasi, Ghana

one reason why you should visit my city at least once in your life: Come for the greenery. Kumasi is nicknamed the “Garden City” of Ghana, and it really does feel that way.

my background (education, job, interests,…): I recently graduated in Materials Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. I am new to computational work. Until now I have mostly learned from lectures, experiments, and papers; I have a keen interest in computational materials science, but I am honestly a beginner with DFT and with running calculations myself.

this is what I expect from this course: I hope it takes me from “I have heard of DFT” to being able to run simple calculations and interpret the output. I am looking for conceptual explanations and hands-on practice more than heavy theory.

this is the longer term goal in my life to which I expect this course will contribute: In the near future I want to pursue a PhD in Materials Science, working on the computational discovery of energy materials. In the longer term I hope to work as an independent researcher. This course feels like the right first step.
