Electric field gradient in Hf

I wasn’t aware of it. But do we need the full machinery of ab initio methods to conclude that an hcp crystal will have it or will the symmetry properties alone suffice? It would be nice if we can apply ab initio methods to crystals of inert elements and predict a change in their packing – fcc to hcp.
