Jacob’s ladder is a conceptual framework that systematically improves the accuracy of exchange-correlation functionals by progressively adding advanced quantum physical ingredients. That is, climbing from simple local approximations on “earth” toward the exact, error-free functional in “heaven” at the cost of higher computational complexity.
