Quantum physics and classical mechanics are called ab initio models because they begin from fundamental first principles, such as the Schrödinger equation, without relying on empirical fitting to specific systems. Classical electromagnetism can also be considered ab initio because it is derived from Maxwell’s equations, which serve as its fundamental first principles describing electric and magnetic fields.
