    Jacob’s ladder is a metaphor to classify exchange–correlation (XC) functionals by their level of sophistication and accuracy. The “rungs” of the ladder correspond to the ingredients used in constructing the functional. The first rung is LDA, the second rung GGA, and so on. Climbing the ladder generally improves accuracy but increases computational cost
