Whilst the activity of building the simulation itself can be seen as theoretical work, the act of doing these calculations is purely done by a computer in a simulation program which uses the underlying theory.
We -humans- do not make theoretical new works but use this theory so the computer can run the numbers for us and give us insights into the materials we study.
