I have done a phd and a postdoc almost exclusively using MD, and am now a research scientist looking to branch out.

I’ve been using DFT on the side in a recipe-based way for the last six months or so, with understanding gleaned from courses I hardly remember and with various assumptions creeping in as I read papers, see presentations, etc. over the last ten or so years. I’m hoping that this course will bring some of those assumptions to light, and explain some of the variables I’ve been playing around with without really understanding.

I have a value in understanding what I’m doing, a value which has been betrayed by my treatment of quantum espresso as a more-or-less black box. This course will help me to understand (and hopefully) do more reasonable things.
