Theory is the development of fundamental principles, such as equations in quantum mechanics, while simulation is the application of those theories using computers to study specific systems — not the creation of new theories.
The word “quantum” often leads people to assume that anything related to it must be theoretical, because it sounds complex. Simulations can also provide deep scientific insights like theories do, which causes many to mistakenly think they are theoretical processes, when in fact they are applications of existing theories.
